Rorotan Residents Welcome New Retaining Wall Heightening

Residents in Rorotan, North Jakarta, have welcomed the retaining wall elevation project currently being undertaken by the Cilincing Water Resources (SDA) Unit on Jalan Rorotan IX.

Targeting to conclude the work before the Idulfitri holidays

It is seen as a vital step in protecting the neighborhood from frequent flooding.

Setiawan (32), a local resident, explained that spillover was a recurring issue as the previous retaining wall was level with the road. This design flaw allowed water to easily inundate the street and creep toward residential areas.

"We're truly grateful that our proposal has finally been realized. Every time heavy rain hit, the water would overflow, causing a great deal of anxiety for all of us," he expressed, Monday (3/2).

Beyond the work, he emphasized the importance of periodic maintenance—particularly sediment removal—to mitigate the risk of ponding in his residential area.

"With the revetment now heightened, we trust it will act as a sturdy barrier against torrential downpours, ultimately fostering a safer environment for all neighbors," he asserted.

Cilincing Sub-district SDA Executing Unit Field Coordinator, Nandi Yantoro explained that the retaining wall is being fortified using river stone masonry and reinforced concrete casting at the top, middle, and base to ensure maximum structural integrity.

"The retaining wall which previously stood at one meter, has been elevated by 50 centimeters to reach a total height of 1.5 meters, stretching 30 meters in length with a width of 20 centimeters.

The structure spans 30 meters in length with a thickness of 20 centimeters. According to him, a dedicated team of 13 personnel has been mobilized for the project. Work commenced in early February and has currently reached the 50 percent completion mark.

"Gratefully, we have encountered no major obstacles during the construction process. We're targeting to conclude the work before the Idulfitri holidays so that residents can reap the benefits immediately," he stated.
